Application

Carbon and nitrogen elemental analyzer

The CN 802 is a robust and flexible combustion analyzer designed according to official reference methods (link to bottom) for carbon and nitrogen determination in various industries such as environmental, agricultural, chemical, food and feed.

What is the advantage of the CN 802?

The CN 802 is operated completely independently by the CNSoft software – supervision by laboratory staff is not necessary. In just 5 minutes it provides simultaneous results for::

  • Total carbon – TC
  • Total nitrogen – TN
  • C/N ratio

This fast and highly sensitive C/N elemental analyzer operates continuously, 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, 365 days a year, with simple regular maintenance. It eliminates the need for harsh chemicals or time-consuming analytical procedures, making it ideal for high-throughput laboratories. Just prepare your sample and go!

Samples
The CN 802 allows you to analyze a wide range of sample types, including solid, semi-solid and liquid samples.

Application
The CN 802 guarantees precise results and excellent reproducibility with:

  • One measuring range for carbon of
  • 0.003 mg m to 150 mgC;
  • A measuring range for nitrogen of 0.001 – 200 mg N abs.
  • A relative standard deviation (RSD) of less than 0.5 % (EDTA).

It can process up to 117 samples and offers exceptional efficiency. This is made possible by the electronic autosampler and the direct connection to the PC balance for the transfer of weighing results.

Laboratories have the option of choosing between helium and argon as the carrier gas.

Efficiency in your laboratory
The CN 802 analyzes samples of up to 1 g and thus reduces the cost per analysis through combustion technology and the use of consumables with an extended service life.

  • The maintenance-free, non-dispersive HighSensIR detector guarantees consistent performance over time for the analysis of high and low carbon samples
  • The CN 802 LoGasTMTCD works without reference gas and guarantees the lowest gas consumption on the market
  • Optimized combustion results in very low oxygen consumption: using a pre-installed method, the device accurately doses the gas to ensure complete sample combustion based on their weight and matrix, saving resources
  • The DriStepTM physical water sampler not only requires no maintenance, but also removes 99% of water without the use of chemicals
  • Installation of the CN 802 is straightforward and its compact design saves valuable space on your lab bench.

Combustion technology drastically improves productivity and eliminates the use of chemicals compared to wet chemical N/protein determination methods.

Standard methods

The CN 802 works according to the following official reference methods:

ISO 10694; EN 16168; EN 15936; ISO 20236; AOAC 993.13; ISO 20620; ISO 13878; EN 13654-2, EPA Method 440.0, etc.

Measuring method

Functionality

The sample is purged with a carrier gas and enters the combustion reactor, where it is converted into its elemental compounds at high temperature (over 1000 °C).
Water separation takes place in 2 steps. The combustion gases enter the maintenance-free physical trap DriStepTM (WT1), which is strategically placed after combustion and captures 99% of the water. Secondly, a chemical trap (WT2) ensures the complete removal of the remaining 1% of water.
The combination of high temperature and the exclusive VcopperTM reduces nitrogen dioxide in the reduction furnace to molecular nitrogen.
The VELP HighSensIR detector enables the analysis of an extremely wide carbon concentration range, from just a few ppm up to 150 mg absolute carbon, from micro to macro applications.
Then auto-regenerative CO2 absorbers capture carbon dioxide so that the exclusive TCD (Thermal Conductivity Detector) can detect the nitrogen content.

CNSoft™ software

The CNSoftTM software controls and operates the CN 802 analyzer. With an easy-to-use interface, the software provides comprehensive information at a glance, including results, database and instrument status.

Users have access to an extensive library of pre-installed methods and can create custom methods. Easy creation of calibration curves for carbon and nitrogen allows testing of any sample matrix without memory effect.
For example, after consumable replacement, perform a comprehensive leak test either for the entire circuit or targeted by zone.
The CN 802 software can be updated with the optional 21 CFR Part 11 Package for pharmaceutical, cosmetic and food industry laboratories that require compliance with FDA regulations.

Smart Lab solution

The CN 802 optimizes routine workflows by connecting to the VELP Ermes cloud platform, enabling real-time monitoring of your elemental analyzer from anywhere, anytime.

Designed for seamless, continuous operations with fully automated processes, the platform enables the management of multiple instruments, consumables and workflows and significantly reduces diagnostic time. In fact, you can review historical records of instrument activity and retrieve valuable troubleshooting information, as well as provide access to our experts for timely and remote technical and analytical support. This ensures a superior level of service while maximizing data security and protection.

Immediate notifications and alarms keep you constantly informed about the status of your analyses. Remote interruption capabilities give you complete control over your processes and ensure maximum security.
