Your advantages

Compliance with the standard norms: ISO 9562 for AOX, DIN 38409 and DIN 38414 for EOX

Space-saving: requires less than half a meter of lab bench

Increased safety: acetic acid post-combustion & simple change of cell electrolyte and sulphuric acid

Maximum flexibility: thanks to integrated autosampler for AOX and EOX & combination of different AOX measurement modes in one sequence

Fast EOX measurement: complete recovery of heavy substances in the shortest possible measurement time

Resource protection

Designed for longevity: robust workmanship, clear & simple handling, service and spare parts. One example is the TOX-100 analyzer, which we sold from 1997 to 2013. Today, 85% of these analyzers are still in use – and are repaired, serviced and supplied with spare parts.

Sustainability: Cross-compatibility with other device series (to all chlorine analyzers from a1, e.g. TOX-10, TOX-10sigma, TOX-100, TOX-300 and AOX-200) and sample preparations (AOX sample preparation modules) & no need for technical gases in AOX operation

Minimal use of resources: thanks to the sturdy design, there is less wear and tear and parts rarely need to be replaced

Cost efficiency: thanks to direct injection of the AOX columns into the combustion chamber, low-wear ceramic filter and gas routing without Permapure dryer

Easy handling

Possible samples: Water, waste water, soil samples

Easy cleaning and maintenance: thanks to the simple and robust design of the AOX-400

Intuitive software: with navigation mode and optimized quality control

High efficiency: short measuring times, longer measuring sequences and low maintenance requirements

Vertical stove: ensures faster combustion and less wear on the combustion tube

A wide variety of applications: for example for

  • Contract laboratories
  • Sewage treatment plants
  • Industrial companies that discharge (waste) water
  • Power plants

Application

Applications

  • Measurement of AOX in water, wastewater, soil and sewage sludge
  • Measurement of EOX in water, wastewater, soil and sewage sludge
  • Measurement of POX in water
  • Determination of total chlorine in coal

What does the AOX-400 measure?

The AOX-400 determines the 3 environmental parameters: AOX, EOX and POX
The “X” always stands for the halogens chlorine, bromine or iodine

AOX = Adsorbable organically bound halogens

EOX = Extractable organically bound halogens

POX = purgeable organically bound halogens

What processes does the AOX-400 use?

With the AOX-400, either the column method or the shaking method can be used. With the column method, the sample is passed through activated carbon at a rate of 3 ml per minute. In the shaking method, the sample is shaken in a shaker for one hour and then filtered.

For whom are the measurement results important?

For example, for companies that have to comply with certain limit values. In the case of AOX, this applies to industrial companies that produce their own wastewater and discharge water, for example. These are usually substances that are difficult for nature to break down, which is why the Wastewater Ordinance (gesetze-im-internet.de AbwV https://www.gesetze-im-internet.de/abwv/AbwV.pdf ) must be complied with.
In the case of EOX, this applies to construction companies, for example, in order to analyze the excavated soil and determine accordingly how it may be disposed of

Is there a safety risk when handling samples?

Yes, there is a risk when working with wastewater, sewage sludge and soil samples, as it is never known exactly what substances and materials they contain.
However, the finished samples on the carbon columns are virtually harmless to the user. Nothing outgasses from the samples as the hazardous substances are bound in the water. Nevertheless, always wear personal protective equipment.

How is the AOX-400 controlled?

The application-specific software is tailored to the requirements of the AOX and EOX parameters. Different measurement modes allow the analysis of preferential samples. Integrated navigation guides you from commissioning to printing out the results.

Standard methods

The AOX-400 is fully compliant with all relevant standard procedures for AOX/EOX:

  • EN ISO 9562 & LAWA P5 leaflet
  • DIN 38409
  • DIN 38414

Measuring method

Work steps

  • Automatic sample feeding
  • Sample combustion
  • Gas drying
  • Potentiometric titration
  • Combustion of acetic acid exhaust gases

Sample preparation

With the modules for AOX sample preparation, the samples can be optimally prepared for the measurement process.

FAQ

The AOX-400 is suitable for a wide range of companies, for example contract laboratories, sewage treatment plants, construction companies and industrial companies that produce or discharge wastewater themselves.

The AOX-400 measures the 3 sum parameters from the environmental area AOX, EOX, POX

The abbreviations stand for
AOX = adsorbable organically bound halogens
EOX = extractable organically bound halogens
POX = particulate purgeable organically bound halogens

With the AOX-400 you can analyze water, wastewater, sewage sludge and soil samples

Wastewater, soil or sewage sludge can contain substances that cannot be broken down by nature, or only with great difficulty. For this reason, there are various standards and regulations that have set limit values. With the AOX, EOX and POX analysis, you can determine whether your sample complies with these limit values.

Of course, we will be happy to come to you and show you the appliance so that you can get to know the technology.

Once your AOX-400 has been installed, our service team will be available to provide you with detailed product training. Most questions will arise as you work, so we will also be able to help you with any questions that arise at a later date – at your premises or flexibly via an online meeting.

Yes, to be able to work with the AOX-400 you also need activated carbon columns and a model for AOX sample preparation.

As the substances to be analyzed are usually present in a very low concentration, the samples must be concentrated. You can do this using an AOX sample preparation module and our AOX packs. However, the AOX-400 is also able to process other activated carbon columns automatically.

The AOX-400 is fully controlled via the PC with its own software. It offers data management, reporting and archiving

AOX = EN ISO 9562 & LAWA P5 leaflet

EOX = DIN 38409, DIN 38414

POX = no standard exists

The construction of the AOX-400 is of exceptional quality and the mechanics of the autosampler are extremely robust. The system is also very clearly laid out so that you can see everything and have a good understanding of the device. You can reach everything, which also allows for optimal cleaning and, if desired, maintenance. The appliance is small and takes up little space and you save on operating costs as we work with compressed air and the parts used are very robust. Our devices have a very long service life and we guarantee the best service even for old products (including spare parts availability). The measuring cell of the AOX-400 has been the same for 40 years, we rely on proven technology.
