FIWE

Fibre Analysers

The VELP FIWE 3 & 6 and FIWE Advanced are fibre analysers suitable for raw fibre extraction, commonly known as an indigestible residue.

FIWE 3 & 6: High Reliability, Single or Multiple Extractions

With the FIWE fibre analysers, you can perform single or multiple extractions including boiling, rinsing and filtration steps with the maximum reproducibility available.

With no sample transfer, the VELP FIWE 3 and 6 prevents any possible sample loss, as crucibles can also be used as sample vessels during weighing, drying and washing.

An exceptionally effective heating element speeds up the analysis, ensuring rapid heating of the sample, previously mixed with pre-heated reagents. Also, after the second reagent addition, the heating element grants a fast re-heating of the solution, for noticeable saving in terms of time.

The VELP FIWE Series reduces the time required for the analysis: the equivalent manual procedure will require more than 6 hours, compared to the 2 hours with FIWE 3 or FIWE 6.

To prepare the sample for fibre analysis, COEX guarantees rapid fat extraction right into the same glass crucibles used by the FIWE series. The crucible, containing the defatted sample, is transferred directly to the FIWE analyser, removing possible errors due to sample transfer.

Key Features

  • Reduces the time required for the analysis
  • You can perform single or multiple extractions
  • Suitable for raw fibre extraction

Applications

Some of the finest benefits of the FIWE 3 and FIWE 6 are rapid analysis, reliable results and high reproducibility, advantages perfect for the following applications:

  • The Weende method, the oldest analytical procedure still in use today, in which fibre concentration is measured as crude fibre (CF)
  • The Neutral Detergent Fibre (NDF), a method developed by Van Soest, now the most common measure of fibre used for animal feed analysis
  • Acid Detergent Fibre (ADF), a portion of the plant fibre and includes cellulose, lignin and variable amounts of xylans.
  • Acid Detergent Lignin (ADL) determination and Wijkstrom technique, a modification of the Weende method

CRUDE FIBER ANALYSIS – CF: EN ISO 6865, AOAC 978.10

NEUTRAL DETERGENT FIBER – NDF, aNDF: ISO 16472 AOAC 2002.04

ACID DETERGENT FIBER and LIGNIN – ADF, ADL: EN ISO 13906, AOAC 973.18

FIWE Advance: Automatic Fibre Analyser Page

The VELP FIWE Advance Automatic Fibre analyser is a fully automatic analyser for crude and detergent fibre determination according to official reference methods, it requires minimum operator time and includes a unique user interface and cloud connectivity.

Easy to use, automated and smart.

Accurate and reproducible results are what animal feed industry laboratories needs for fibre determinations to meet the requirements of product labelling and quality control.

The VELP FIWE Advance fully automates digestion, washing and filtration steps guaranteeing consistency for Crude Fibre with the Weende Method and Detergent Fibre for fibre fraction with the Van Soest Method NDF, ADF and ADL.

FIWE Advance generates precise results that comply with official ISO and AOAC methods for both Crude Fibre and Detergent Fibre.

In addition, the FIWE Advance method using crucibles avoids loss of fibre due to the sample remaining in the crucible for the duration of the analytical procedure, including the extraction, digestion, washing and filtration phases, as well as during weighing and finally for drying and ashing. This eliminates the risks of errors as well as reducing costs and improving lab productivity.

VELP’s FIWE Advance requires only 2 minutes of operator time compared to the 50+ minutes required of operator time on a semi-automatic solution. You will no longer need to preheat and pour chemicals into the columns, manage the temperature for proper boiling, or make sure the filtration is successful.

With FIWE Advance all the operations mentioned above are working automatically and – thanks to the cloud connection – you are always informed with instant notifications. The 7-inch touchscreen display and the User Interface, developed by VELP also make operations simple and smart.

The FIWE Advance comes with pre-installed methods developed by VELP in accordance with official methods. You can create custom methods and select your favourites for maximum convenience and to speed-up your daily work.

The VELP FIWE Advance has 3 USB ports whilst also allowing you to connect VELP barcode readers to facilitate data insertion and to avoid transcription errors. Connecting your balance will make data transfer and calculation of results quick and easy.

Fibre determination with the FIWE Advance is absolutely safe. All the reagents required are contained in dedicated glass tanks and bottles located inside the instrument.
